Love this one and the lens worked the way I wanted it to, hoped to have the hands in focus and they kind of are.

Look at that bokeh!  Horrible thanks to the chairs behind Kate.  Something to keep in mind when using that 1.8 f stop.

Weird background again, clear eye and messy face.

Good catchlights in the eyes, I had other comments but have now forgotten. Did you read that tip about focus points? I used to focus on one eye, figured that would work but really you need to focus in between them (or on the person closest to you in a group) because the depth of field is shallower in front than behind. I had to type that out to help me remember that... anyway, I am impressed with how you got both your dad and Matthew in focus there, that reminded me of this tip. I read that the fixed lenses can have to shallow DOF but I haven't noticed that much in your shots here.

I did read that tip on her blog and am so thankful because that really bothers me about most of my pictures. Now I know and need to try it. Not sure when I'll be out with the camera again, seems like so much is happening all of a sudden!
